Mother and Child Healthcare

No woman should die giving life. Every woman is entitled to a safe, hygienic delivery.

The Savitri Trust is committed to Millennium Development Goals 4 & 5:

Goal 4:

Reduce Child Mortality

Goal 5:
Improve Maternal Health

In India, 78,000 women die each year from pregnancy or childbirth related complications such as anaemia, pre-eclampsia, or post-partum haemorrhage. These can be prevented with effective, timely and suitable healthcare interventions such as emergency obstetric care, information from a trained health worker and access to a trained midwife.

One million babies die every year in India before they are 29 days old and 47% of children in India are underweight. Malnutrition has a direct impact on educational achievement, labour productivity, and economic growth.

Women from poor rural communities are routinely denied access to adequate healthcare and emergency obstetric care due to the remoteness of their villages, prevalent cultural beliefs, superstition and a lack of health education. The Savitri Trust aims to work with local organisations in rural areas to help fill the gap in healthcare service delivery.

The Savitri Trust would like to show this simple but effective film made by the White Ribbon Alliance which clearly sums up what is needed and what this project is doing:
