Millions of people in rural India still live in darkness.
Basic primary needs such as a toilet is a luxury for many. The major problem India faces today is the population
explosion, along with poverty and illiteracy creates a harsh living environment.
The Tulsi Savitri Maternal and Child Health Care Project was started to help the rural
population of 45,000 in and around Coimbatore District. The aim is to create awareness and initiate social development.
The focus point of the project is on mother and child health, ensuring safe motherhood and raising healthy children into small
families.
The project is split into two areas; medical and non-medical.
Medical: The medical elements of the project include:

Medical Centres

Antenatal Clinics

Outreach Care through Health Workers

Preventative Care

Growth monitoring of children under 5 years

Curative Care an Special Clinics for Hypertensive, Diabetic and Tuberculosis patients
Non-Medical: The non-medical elements of the project include:

Establishment of creative schools (Nursery) where Government ICDS centres are not available

Facilitator in providing protected water supply

Sanitation – building toilet blocks and motivating people to become user friendly

Vocational guidance – training women in tailoring and embroidery
